Frequently Asked Questions

Thinking about visiting FSBCA for the first time?  Want to be prepared?  Here are some answers to commonly asked questions about our church.  If you still have questions, feel free to call us or email us!

What is FSBCA all about?  We try not to complicate church life, so we focus on three things:

  • First, we love God.  Our worship services are focused on loving God, honoring Him, celebrating what He has done for us, and learning about what it means to follow Him.

  • Secondly, we love people.  And that means all people.  We work hard to be a multi-racial, multi-lingual, and multi-generational church.

  • Thirdly, we follow Jesus.  Of course, it's easy to say that, but we work hard to live for Him and love like Him 7 days per week.

What is the best time for a first-timer to come?  We have three worship services, and all of them are similar and are great for first timers.  We meet on Saturday at 6:00 pm and on Sundays at either 8:30 or 11:00.

What should I wear?  We don't have a dress code and we don't tell people how to dress.  Most of our attenders dress in casual clothing.  On any given weekend you will see everything from shorts and sandals to shirt and ties.

Where should I park?  We have parking lots on both sides of our main building.  Each side has a main entrance with greeters who can answer your questions, direct you, and give you a printed bulletin with more information.  On Saturday nights, we use the parking lot to the east of our building.

Are children welcome?  Yes!  We are a very family-friendly and child-friendly church.  We have nursery and preschool classes for children age 4 and under during all of our worship services.  As you enter the foyer, you will see a sign directing you to the nursery.  When you check-in your children, you will receive a pager so that our nursery staff can contact you if necessary and you can enjoy the worship service without worrying about them.  Children age 5 and up are encouraged to sit with their family in worship.  Pastor Jack often has a children's time in worship, and he even uses children and teenagers to read the Scriptures during his message.  We also have some great children's classes (as well as adult classses) at 9:45.  And to protect all of our children, we require that all of our nursery, children, and teen workers undergo and pass a background check before they work in our ministries.

What is a "Southern Baptist?"  The "Southern Baptist" part of our name means that we voluntarily cooperate with the Southern Baptist Convention, a group of churches who are known for faith in Jesus and for extended mission work around the world.

How do I join the church?  We have two membersip requirements.  The first is that you proclaim to be a believer in and a follower of Jesus Christ.  And the second is that you either have been or you are willing to be baptized.  We regularly baptize those who are ready.  You can join by letting us know on a Connection Card (they're in the Sunday bulletins) or by walking to the front during the response time and telling a counselor that you are ready to join.  We will celebrate with you and schedule a short meeting (at church or in your home) with a staff member to welcome you.

What's baptism all about?  Jesus himself was baptized, and He taught it as the public way to proclaim your faith in Him.  It isn't what makes you a Christianthat comes by faith.  But baptism is the Biblical way of proclaiming that you believe in Him.  We don't baptize babies; we reserve it for those who are old enough to understand their decision.  And we do it the Biblical way, by full immersion during one of our worship services.

Do I have to join the church?  No.  All of our worship services and classes are open to everyone, so joining is not necessary to participate.   However, all of our leaders, teachers, and key ministry personnel are chosen from members of our church.  In addition, since key decisions in church life are made by a vote of the members, membership is very important!

What is expected of members?  We teach our members to do at least three things:

  • Love God by worshiping Him every week in a public worship service and by giving to Him.

  • Live Jesus in the context of a small group of people (a Sunday School class or small group meeting during the week) where you learn, pray, and make friends.

  • Love people by participating in one of our ministries that are designed to show love to people.

How do I give to FSBCA?  All of our ministries are funded by the generosity of our members and friends.  We don't talk much about money in worship because we don't want to turn it into a fundraising event.  However, we do encourage tithing (giving 10%) and generous giving.  You can give in the offering plate, at a kiosk in our foyers, online on our webpage, or on our APP.

How can I get more involved?  We encourage you to do two things in addition to coming to worship.  Join one of our classes.  Many meet on Sunday morning or evening and some meet during the week.  And you can read about and find the contact information to get involved in one of our ministries.  Do those three things (worship, small group, and serve in a ministry) and we feel confident that you will grow in your faith and get the most out of our church!

Still have questions?  Our staff members love to answer questions about our church!  You can see a list of staff members online and contact them by email or by phone!
