Welcome
To Our Deacons Page!
Our deacons are an active group of men who use their gifts and talents to
serve Jesus Christ by serving our members and guests. They pray,
visit, counsel and serve in a variety of ways. They lead the church by
their commitment to serving Christ and His church and by their example of
faithfulness and Christian living.
The Bible tells us how deacons got their early start. In the early
church, the pastors were busy teaching and praying, and some needs were not
being met. The church met this challenge by electing some men to make
sure that the needs were met. Here's the key passage in Acts 6:
So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, "It would not
be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait
on tables. Brothers, choose seven men from among you who are known to be
full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them
and we will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word."
Our church has a group of men who have agreed to serve the members of
our church. They serve without pay and are available to minister to the
needs of our congregation. They have organized themselves in teams to
meet some of the major needs of our congregation. Our deacons lead
such teams as our hospital visitation team, an altar counseling team, a
senior ministry team, and a benevolence team.
Our deacons understand that their positions are not honorary. Serving
as a deacon is a high calling, and much is expected of those who would serve
the church in this way. For further study, see Acts 6 and I Timothy 3
and review the questions we ask potential
deacons.
