Questions For Potential Deacons
-
Would you consider serving as a deacon of the First
Southern Baptist Church of Avondale?
-
The scriptural qualifications for deacons are found
in Acts 6 and 1 Timothy 3. In general terms, it can be said that they
are to be full of the Spirit and wisdom, worthy of respect, sincere and
knowledgeable in their faith, and a good husband and father. Do you
believe that you are qualified to serve as a deacon?
-
The scriptures also teach that a deacon’s wife is
to be trustworthy and worthy of respect. A deacon’s wife is often called
upon to minister to others and to be part of the ministry team of the
church. Do you believe your wife is qualified to serve, and is she
willing to serve with you?
-
A deacon is expected to be faithful in his
attendance to our church, participating in worship, prayer meetings, and
classes. Are you faithful in your attendance?
-
A deacon is expected to tithe and give generously
to church supported causes. Do you tithe and give generously?
-
A deacon is expected to be an example of the
Christian life for the congregation. Do you and your family set a
positive example of the Christian life to the congregation and to the
community?
-
It takes time to be a deacon. In addition to
faithful attendance in church, regular attendance in deacon’s meetings,
and deacon training, a deacon needs to take the time to be regularly
involved on at least one of our deacon ministry teams. Do you have the
time and will you take the time to do this?
-
A deacon is expected to be a strong supporter of
our church, our doctrines, and our church leadership. Does this describe
you?
-
Is there anything in your life that would keep you
from serving as a deacon?
